Central Line Patency and Restoration Training
Central Venous Catheter Line Patency and Restoration Training Course Summary
The Central Venous Catheter Line Patency and Restoration Training course is now incorporated into the Central Line Care and Maintenance Training course. The Central Line Care and Maintenance Training course includes teaching and training nurses how to accurately and confidently diagnose and resolve central venous catheter line complications, including central line patency problems. This course provides a comprehensive overview of flushing guidelines, drug compatibility, and proper line positioning for patency. Through didactic (classroom), simulation, and hands-on training, participants will gain understanding and confidence in performing techniques for identifying, managing, and preventing potential CVC line complications such as occlusions, the line not flushing properly, and the line having a loss of blood return. Instruction is customized to the unique healthcare settings of the participants involved, their specific supplies and equipment, as well as addressing problem areas identified before or during the course. Upon completion, participants will be trained in the standards for flushing the central line and skilled in evaluating and restoring central line patency. In addition, participants will be able to accurately identify and resolve existing complications and avoid potential or delayed complications associated with the central line.
