Ultrasound Guided PIV Insertion Training
Ultrasound Guided PIV Insertion Training
Course Summary
During the Ultrasound Guided PIV Insertion Training course, a Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC), practicing nurse clinician will teach and train nurses how to refine their intravenous skills. Training includes instruction on how to gain vascular access in a variety of challenging situations and how to use ultrasound to visualize and select a vein for intravenous cannulation. In addition, participants are trained how to reduce multiple needle sticks and mitigate risk of infection in order to enable uninterrupted patient treatment. Through didactic (classroom), simulation, and hands-on PIV insertion training, participants gain the knowledge and skills necessary to properly start ultrasound guided intravenous lines. Each training class is customized to the unique healthcare settings of the participants involved, their specific supplies and equipment, and addresses problem areas identified prior to and during the course. Upon completion, participants will be trained in recognizing, assessing, and managing difficult intravenous insertion conditions and be able to use ultrasound guidance for vein visualization to enable safe, accurate line placement.
