Mobile Vascular Services from Vascular Wellness

Mobile IV Services

Mobile IV Services typically include only PIVs, Midlines, and PICCs, and such Mobile IV Services companies claim to be specialists but, in our opinion, fall short of that designation. We are Vascular Access Specialists and our approach to comprehensive Vascular Access Services at the bedside is superior and better than Mobile IV Services providers in virtually every significant way. We provide standard and advanced line placement enabling the most clinically appropriate line, education and training so more instruction than what would be received in just a classroom setting, infection control and prevention consulting and support, and full administrative support services, including a 24/7 Vascular Access Support team with an on-call clinician. Our administrative support far exceeds what a typical Mobile IV Services company provides. In sum, we bring our hospital quality care and exceptional client support services to Rehabilitation Hospitals, Hospital at Home programs, Skilled Nursing Facilities, Surgical and Outpatient Centers, Hospice Care, and to the Home for home healthcare.

Vascular Wellness nurse clinicians are Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC), insured, skill-verified, and salaried W2 employees, meaning that we can ensure quality, reliability, and consistent services as compared to a 1099 contractor pay per procedure model (plus, in some cases, “performance” bonuses) used by most Mobile IV Services companies. Further, it is not uncommon for Mobile IV Services companies to engage a client without having the nursing resources available and then when a service request is made, to scramble to find a new nurse who self-certifies his/her skill set, to perform the service. Finally, the pay per procedure model may create some adverse incentives for speed at the bedside versus spending the time needed to ensure the placement of the right line at the right time, the first time.

Unlike many Mobile IV Services companies, we provide holistic medical care, meaning that we talk to the patient, address questions and fears, and perform a comprehensive medical review. Prior to performing any Vascular Access procedure, the Vascular Wellness clinician reviews the patient’s medical record including history and lab reports, and independently verifies and confirms the physician’s order. If our clinician disagrees with the prescribing physician, the clinician will consult with the physician. Our clinicians have earned the trust of many physicians, and the physicians will defer to the clinician’s recommendation by ordering a “consult” as compared to ordering a specific type of vascular access device.  This deference is something that we at Vascular Wellness are very proud of and do not take lightly this responsibility.   Patient safety and vein preservation are critical – which is why a holistic, comprehensive evaluation and Advanced Lines are significant.

In states where nurses are permitted, Vascular Wellness clinicians can provide immediate X-Ray Clearance of lines when tip confirmation is not available or appropriate and X-Ray confirmation must be performed.  X-Ray Clearance is part of our training process, and for which we have specific policies, procedures, and competencies.   This saves time, money, and coordination with a Radiologist or other physician and enables the lines to be used promptly to avoid treatment delay. Quicker therapy leads to better outcomes.

Vascular Wellness uses the industry gold standard, top rated, and hospital preferred supplies from Becton Dickinson, formerly Bard (BD), that may help mitigate the potential for poor outcomes such as bad placement, infections, clotting, and other adverse events.

Vascular Wellness provides program management, policy and procedure consulting and documentation, EHR/CHR Vascular Access configuration, Vascular Access services reimbursement coding consulting and support, infection control support, and pediatric vascular access. We are the true Vascular Access Specialists, and much more than a Mobile IV Services company that may assert to be specialists.

Mobile IV Insertion Services

Mobile IV Insertion Services, also known as Mobile IV Placement Services, may include only PIVs, Midlines, and PICCs, or may focus more on infusion than line insertion or placement.  PIVs, Midlines, and PICCs can provide adequate vascular access, if clinically appropriate and inserted correctly.  However, these Mobile IV Insertion Services can be of limited use as they, by definition, will not be the correct vascular access device in all situations.  For example, in some cases such as when the patient has or likely will have Deep Vein Thrombosis (or DVT), kidney and renal failure, or had a mastectomy, vein preservation is key and other forms of vascular access are likely more appropriate.  In such situations, other vascular access devices such as Small Bore Internal Jugular Lines, Femoral Lines, and Axillary Lines as well as Large Bore Lines including Quad Lumens and Vas Caths for Dialysis, provide additional tools to enable clinically appropriate vascular access.  We refer to these Small Bore and Large Bore Lines as Advanced Lines, and while Vascular Wellness excels in the placement of these Advanced Lines, very few vascular access nurse clinicians, especially those who are perform Mobile IV Insertion Services, are able to even offer or provide such catheter options, making such services incomplete.  Over the years we have learned that because other Mobile IV Insertion Services companies do not offer Advanced Lines, in certain cases, those nurses will not  spend the time to do a detailed medical history review or will ignore such medical history so that they can place the line and get paid, at the physician’s extreme frustration knowing that the patient’s life may have been shortened by such behavior.  Our W2 salaried employees’ compensation is not based on productivity or speed, and their focus is on patient and client service. Vascular Wellness is more than a typical Mobile IV Access company by providing more complete and comprehensive services.
