Central Line Care and Maintenance Training
Central Venous Catheter Line Care and Maintenance Training
Course Summary
During the Central Venous Catheter Line Care and Maintenance course, a Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC), practicing nurse clinician will teach and train nurses how to properly and confidently manage and maintain, central venous catheter lines and to effectively and efficiently minimize the risk of infection. Through didactic (classroom), simulation, and hands-on training, participants are trained on essential central venous catheter line care and maintenance concepts and procedures such as flushing lines, troubleshooting clogged or clotted lines, and determining and addressing proper catheter position. Training includes assessing symptoms of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), implementing Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations for Central-Line care bundles, developing bundles, selecting appropriate products for optimal central line care, and reducing accidental pull-outs. Instruction is customized to the unique healthcare settings of the participants involved, their specific supplies and equipment, as well as addressing problem areas identified prior to or during the course. Upon completion, participants will be trained in CVC line assessment, diagnostics, care, and maintenance.
